Fall Bird Survey at Long Point

Spend a fall morning birding the wild side of Harrison–Long Point! We’ll explore wetlands, Bald Cypress ponds, woodlands, open fields, and the property’s active rookery while identifying and counting birds for a fall survey. This survey will be led by JBH Bird Leaders Erik and Deb.

Previous surveys have recorded an exciting variety of birds, including Roseate Spoonbills, Wood Storks, Common Gallinules, Great Kiskadees, Great Horned Owls, Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, Crested Caracaras, warblers, flycatchers, and numerous herons and egrets. Every survey is different, and fall migration may bring a few surprises!

Please know before registering: this is an active field survey, not a casual nature walk. Participants will be on their feet for the entire survey and should be prepared to walk a few miles across moderately difficult natural terrain. There are no established trails, and conditions may include tall or wet grass, uneven ground, mud, roots, and other natural obstacles.

Closed-toe walking or hiking shoes are required. Long pants, weather-appropriate clothing, insect repellent, sun protection, and drinking water are strongly recommended.

Participation is limited to reduce disturbance to wildlife and provide the best possible birding experience. Advance registration is required.
