JBH Student Air Rifle Program - Online Interest

The Student Air Rifle (SAR) program offers a unique opportunity for students in grades 4 through 12 to engage in the rewarding sport of target shooting. The SAR mission is to facilitate the introduction to the lifetime sport of target shooting, providing a safe and educational environment for school-aged youth. Aiming to increase participation in the shooting sports and enhance educational performance, the SAR Program promotes positive youth development through firearms safety and target shooting education. SAR helps students “Shoot For Success™” both on the range and in life focusing on developing essential life skills including: effective decision making, accountability, respect, enthusiastic contribution, teamwork, integrity, and honesty.

The James B Harrison Foundation is excited to sponsor a homeschool SAR Team for Fall 2025. Team capacity is limited. Those interested can submit their interest below. Applicants should belong to a certified home school program. Minimum applicant age is 9 years and in 4th grade, through max age of participation of 12th grade.

Submissions close August 6th. Team notification will be sent out August 11th. First practice is tentatively slated for Wednesday, August 20th.

Shooting sports experience can include hunters education, firearm safety, bb-gun, rifle, or shotgun shooting experience. Prior shooting experience is not required.

Why are you applying for your student to participate in the Student Air Rifle Program?

The Student Air Rifle Program is open to students 9years and 4th grade through 12th grade. The James B. Harrison Foundation SAR Team is open to students enrolled in a home-school program. Practices will take place once a week on Wednesdays from 1:30pm to 3:30pm. Participation in these practices are required as each week builds upon the shooting foundation laid the session prior. Students will be permitted one excused absence. The team will be competing in the Texas State SAR Championship slated for October 8th, in Richmond.

Students will be expected to engage in positive sportsmanship like behavior during all practices. Rowdy or horse-play behavior will not be tolerated.

This will not be a student drop off activity. A parent or a home-school program representative, if attending as a group, will be expected to attend practices with their student. Our Coach will ask for your help in monitoring the students behind the spectator line.
